Straight 2 Work - Employment Choices

A free service

Amazing support staff will be available to you

Administrators, secretaries, retail and customer services, data entry and accounts assistants!!

Last year the Chamber surveyed a large number of their members to gauge the level of demand for staff, as well as the type of employment opportunities they could offer job seekers.  As a result of these findings, we are about to offer our regional employers a solution to the employment shortage by offering the Straight 2 Work programme.

We will have motivated people with entry, intermediate and advanced administration and retail skills - all looking for permanent full time and part time opportunities. We will have assessed their skills and know their strengths - and are ready to match them with our members’ needs. Candidates are motivated, loyal, responsible and looking for new challenges. Excellent at multi-tasking these candidates have a mature outlook on life.

What is the “Straight 2 Work – Employment Choices” initiative?
In partnership with Business Development Company and Work and Income we will be facilitating and matching employers with skilled staff at the same time providing training and support to people wishing to return to the workforce.

This 5-stage programme aims to place skilled and motivated candidates into permanent positions.

Stage One: Assessment and Selection
Candidates are referred to us in the first instance by Work and Income. They are invited to attend an interview with us where they are assessed as to their suitability for the programme. If accepted, they are invited to attend a 4 day, intensive training workshop which aims to prepare them for work.

Stage Two: Training
This 4 day ‘work-readiness’ training, prepares candidates for their return to the workforce, from effective communication to team work. They will be tested for their computer skill capability and problem solving abilities as well as understanding of the essential skills required to re-enter the workplace.

Stage Three: Job Placement
On completion of training we assist the candidates as they embark on the job-application process. Any Chamber member or organisation that has an administrative vacancy is encouraged to get in touch with us to obtain details of available candidates.

Stage Four: Career Support
Designed to help the participant stay on the job, they are contacted regularly with support, mentoring or help with job related problems for up to six months following placement.

Stage Five: Career Planning
Assistance structured to help balance work/life commitments and to look at short term and long term career goals.  This is a value added step for both the employee and employer.

The coordinator of the programme is Di Baumgart. Di has a wealth of experience and background in workplace and business skill assessment, computer skills training and a passion in supporting people back into the workplace.  Di previously was involved in “Next Steps for Woman” a programme designed specifically to enable woman to confidently seek work after being at home with children...…so she was an obvious choice to head up this programme!  Di will be working alongside regional employers to match them up with serious job seeker’s and provide long term support of the process to help ensure a positive result for both the employee and employer.

“I am excited about this opportunity to again, work in a field that I know will challenge me and give me satisfaction in knowing that it is a practical and workable programme in fostering employment” Di says.

We especially welcome enquiries from employers whom are able to offer “family friendly” hours (9am-3pm) or some flexibility.

If you are an employer who has a vacancy please contact Di on 03 548 1363 or email s2w@commerce.org.nz
