0800 EXPORT - THE HOTLINE TO EXPORT SUCCESS

On Monday 26th February, the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce will launch a nationwide 0800 EXPORT advice and referral line. Together with other Chamber Export Year intiatives and events to encourage new and existing exporters, the 0800 service will be free for all New Zealand businesses to utilise.

Serviced by expert advisers, the line will have the Chamber's network of support available as a back up. If your organistation has the resources to help exporters, let us know and we can list providers for potential exporters.

There is good reason for the creation of this initiative. New Zealand's exports are around a sluggish 28% of GDP, compared to the OECD average of 40%, therefore, the Government in partnership with the private sector, has named 2007 Export Year. A range of intiatives and programmes including a one-off payment of $33.75 million for Market Development, aim to encourage more New Zealand firms to export. The Ultimate aim is to increase the sustainability of the New Zealand economy beyond 2007, or in the words of Economic Development Minister Trevor Mallard.

'The Government is committed to working with business to grow the number of successful Kiwi exporters as part of ou agenda to transform New Zealand into an economy that is export-led, innovative and high wage.

The Government is working on areas such as business tax, education, infrastructure investment, a greater emphasis on research and development, and further enhancing our global linkages.'

Like all business ventures, exporting is challenging but it is also rewarding. Quality time with somone "who's been there and done that" can play a crucial part in a company's export.

Many companies who responded to last year's Barriers to Export survey, expressed a desire for advice from exporters with practical experience, and for someone to 'connect' new exporters to sources of assistance. 0800 EXPORT aims to fulfill this role.
