34 Young Enterprise companies presented to judges at our YES Pitch sessions, with 140 students taking part.

One judge said "I truly enjoyed it, and it’s so uplifting to see the calibre of the youth coming through. These are our future leaders and change makers – and from what I saw, the future will be in good hands!"

Congratulations to EdiBowls from Waimea College, Scrumdiddly Tum from Marlborough Girls College and Noble Cleaning Spray from Nelson Girls College who were the top YES companies for Challenge 2 in the region, learn about their companies below.

EdiBowls from Waimea College

EdiBowls was borne out of our awareness of single use products entering landfill. So then it got us thinking “so most people like a dessert so once you finish why don’t we eat the bowl?” this is the question we posed and after much experimentation and much trialing (and sampling!) we came up with the Edible bowl. For us this is just the beginning and who knows where this may go?

Being apart of the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme has helped us learn about what's behind the product and what goes into making a business work from the accounting to marketing to business management to the sale of the product. It has been a tough but rewarding experience, if there is one thing I have learnt is no matter how hard things seem or get just never give up.

Scrumdiddly Tum from Marlborough Girls College

We produce authentic, fair-trade, preservative-free and dairy-free chocolate with the added benefits of superfoods - almonds and freeze-dried boysenberries. Containing 70% or more cocoa, our dark chocolate is actually a very beneficial addition to your diet. We are also partnering with Despa Chocolatier who uses old world methods to create premium chocolates in the traditional Belgian style.

Young Enterprise gives us the amazing opportunity to start up our own company. We are so grateful for being part of this beneficial program and learning about the reality of the business-world. YES is a very supportive and inspiring community, providing us with great knowledge and teamwork skills that we will use for the rest of our lives.

Noble Cleaning Spray from Nelson Girls College

The team at Noble provides an effective, natural, cleaning spray proven to kill common household germs and bacteria. Within the starter kit, there is a glass cleaning bottle with a spray cap, along with a cleaning capsule. Once dropped into this glass bottle and mixed with water, this capsule produces a natural cleaning spray.

With the option to purchase these capsules individually, we prevent our customers from contributing towards plastic pollution and environmentally harmful patterns. These capsules are absent of toxins, parabens, and proudly avoid the use of animals in testing.

We have the collective ambition to eliminate single use plastic and reduce our carbon footprint, hence our environmentally conscious production process, packaging and use of locally derived ingredients. Individually and delicately made, our products are designed following in-depth research and development to ensure their effectiveness in both cleaning and protecting the environment.

The Young Enterprise companies will be at the Nelson Market on Saturday 22 August, be sure to check out their stands and support them!
