2021 marks 50 years since Austrian born winemaker and viticulturalist Hermann Seifried first arrived in New Zealand on a working holiday visa.  His plan was to spend a year or two exploring, and gaining experience with the NZ Apple & Pear Board (on Nayland Road) making apple wine, however after meeting the dashing Agnes who was a young teacher at Nayland College, New Zealand was where he wanted to stay.  Together they planted their first vineyard in Upper Moutere in 1973 (now home of Kahurangi Estate), and the dream to make their own Seifried Wines began.

Now, with all three adult children (Heidi, Chris and Anna) working alongside Hermann and Agnes in the business, they embark on the company’s 46th grape harvest in the Nelson region.  From small beginnings, the family now grows 320 hectare of grapes across 10 sustainably accredited vineyard sights around the region, and ships wine to over 25 export destinations. Varietal, flavoursome wines, make with a purity that reflects the Nelson soils and climate. 

Harvest Kitchen Restaurant & Events Centre is based on the vineyard, comprising of a busy 100+ seater winery restaurant teamed up with full service conference and events facilities catering for both the corporate and wedding markets. Offering full a la carte dining for breakfast and lunch, they love to showcase the award winning range of Seifrieds wine, as well as local Hop Federation beer on tap – brewed in Riwaka,  and Capitol Ciders, brewed in Brightwater.  Harvest Kitchen is a popular spot for locals and visitors.   It is family friendly and boasts a stunning garden dining area with a children’s playground.
