The Nelson Tasman Hospice was established in 1987 with 2 staff, a roster of casual nurses, and eight volunteers!
Today the service provides specialist palliative care services for around 240 patients a month, has a team of around 60 clinical colleagues working as an interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, operates 24/7 and has over 400 volunteers. Nelson Tasman Hospice’s mission is to assist patients to make the most of the life that remains and to ensure that patients die comfortably, with dignity and in the place of their choice. They also provide support and care for the family/whānau during the patient’s illness and in bereavement.
In 2019, the Nelson Tasman Hospice opened a purpose-built facility in Suffolk Road in Stoke after four years of fundraising and thanks to the generous support of our community. This building acts as a Hub for the work that they do throughout the Nelson Tasman community.
