Dr Julian Maclaren is a scientist, engineer and entrepreneur. He has been working in Silicon Valley for the last 11 years, mainly on problems involving computer vision and applied machine learning at Stanford University and Google, but is now based in Nelson. Although most of his work has been in the healthcare space, he is a founder of the Nelson AI Institute, which aims to help NZ solve environmental problems using AI. He is also a founding director of the Artificial Intelligence Researchers Association (AIRA).
In this Westpac Smarts session, Dr Maclaren will provide a short introduction to artificial intelligence, with the goal of explaining the state-of-the-art, so that the audience can better understand what is, and what is not, currently possible using AI. He will also present several examples of the work of the Nelson Artificial Intelligence Institute (NAI) and NAI spin-off CarbonCrop.
All are welcome to attend this free event. Tea and coffee provided on arrival.
