Monkey business at the Natureland Findex BA5

On November 12th, around 90 Chamber members joined us at Natureland for our Findex Business After Five networking function. These events are hosted by a different member every month and are a great way to learn more about local business and organisations while getting a behind-the-scenes peak at their operations and connecting with fellow members.

Natureland provided a fun and unique venue, where speeches were interrupted by rambunctious lemurs, kea perched on shoulders, and meerkats providing endless entertainment.

Natureland Wildlife Trust was founded in 2013 amid a crucial rescue mission to save the historic Natureland Zoo, and has evolved into a leading force in local wildlife conservation, combining hands-on animal care with vital conservation work, powered by a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers.

The Trust stands at the forefront of native species protection. Their successful breed-to-release initiatives focus on three endangered New Zealand birds: the yellow-crowned kākāriki, the South Island kākā, and the pāteke (brown teal). For over a decade, Natureland has been instrumental in reintroducing these precious species to both the Abel Tasman National Park and, more recently, the Brook Sanctuary.

Natureland also played a pivitol role in breeding native tuatara, including some that were recently released at Brook Waimārama Sanctuary.

As a non-profit organisation, Natureland thrives through community partnership. Their latest project - creating a state-of-the-art habitat for their capuchin monkey family - showcases the remarkable support of local businesses, who have contributed everything from concrete and earthworks to structural materials.
